“Oh The Places You’ll Go” First Birthday Party

Bubba turned a year old on March 20th! We celebrated by throwing him an Oh The Places You’ll Go birthday party at our home. My mom made most of the decorations and we spent an entire day decorating practically every inch of our house! We had over 60 people in attendance and everyone seemed to have a great time with the birthday boy!

After deciding on the party theme, I had such a hard time finding decorations. Most of the Dr. Seuss decorations available are Cat In The Hat themed. I took to Pinterest, found some inspiration and we made it happen! Most of the decorations were DIY projects made with items from the Target Dollar Spot and Dr. Seuss books that we purchased second hand at thrift shops.

We decorated our mailbox with balloons and decorated the front door with a kit we found at Target which was marketed to teachers to decorate their classroom door.

On our entry way table I set up Dr. Seuss’ Happy Birthday To You book with pens and a sign asking guests to leave bubba a special message that he can look back on for years to come.

Next to the book was a giant number one that my mom painted yellow as well as a globe from bubba’s room stacked on top of various Dr. Seuss books.

The food table was absolutely adorable, especially with the buffet shelves decorated. My mom made the bunting with the second hand Dr. Seuss books, crafted the hot air balloon and used more Target Dollar Spot finds to create this cute set up.

We had quiet a few “punny” snacks. My husband made the “green eggs” and we purchased a ham sandwich ring from Publix.

I love The Lorax and knew we had to include “Truffula Trees” somehow. These “Truffula Trees” were made with paper straws and cotton candy!

Hop on Popcorn! To save time and not have my whole house smell like popcorn, we purchased a large bag of pre-popped popcorn.

The drink containers were my favorite decoration! We filled one with Tang and the other with Country Time Pink Lemonade. The Lorax face was made with scrapbook paper and the Yink’s Pink Ink Drink label was found online.

You can’t have a birthday party without cake! My wonderful friend Kim, from Love At First Bite Cakes made bubba’s festive smash cake.

For our guests, I ordered chocolate and vanilla cupcakes from the Publix bakery. We created cupcake toppers from Dr. Seuss book pages. They turned out so cute!

At most of my parties I like to create a photo wall. All of the props were made with more Dr. Seuss Target finds and a banner from Party City.

We invited lots of kids and I wanted to make sure they had some form of entertainment throughout the party. I did a little researched and found a Dr. Seuss themed bounce house. It seemed to be a big hit!

David and I felt so blessed to celebrate bubba’s very first birthday with him, surrounded by so many people who love us. We couldn’t have asked for a better day!

If you’d like to see more of the decorating process, I filmed a decorate with me vlog. I talk more about what we used and how we displayed it all.

Then, watch it all come together in the birthday party vlog from the day of!
