In April of this year I joined The Bloggers Union and found a local group, The Palm Beach Bloggers. I was so excited to learn more about blogging and to meet other content creators before launching my own blog in May.
I attended two events that I absolutely LOVED and was then asked to be the guest speaker for the October meeting. I honestly couldn’t believe it! I was so nervous and excited to talk to our group about YouTube content creation!
The event was held at Manatee Lagoon which is an FPL Eco Discovery Center. It’s absolutely beautiful and a place I love to frequent. When we arrived Heather gave us a private tour of the center and taught us a thing or two about Manatees. Unfortunately Manatee season doesn’t start until November so we were unable to see Manatees in the water outside.
Heather was an awesome tour guide! She told us all about the dangers to Manatees and how they try to keep them safe. Manatee Lagoon offers free tours of their facility throughout the week. Make sure to visit their website for times! Did I mention there is no entrance fee and free parking? So many great reasons to visit!
After the tour we went upstairs to their beautiful meeting room where I began my presentation. If you’re interested in seeing a little bit of my talk, check out the vlog I posted on my YouTube channel!
My presentation was designed by my friend Lindsey. She’s a wonderful graphic designer! If you need a logo created or anything else for that matter, make sure to contact her via Instagram.

For those of you hoping to learn a little bit about YouTube content creation, here are a few pointers from my presentation.
- When creating a user name, choose one that tells potential subscribers what your channel is about or stick to the user name you’re currently using on your blog or Instagram. You want to be known by the same username across all platforms.
- Use what you have! A lot of people get hung up on the idea that the need the best camera, the best lighting and the best editing software. You don’t! Start with what you have and grow from there. Smartphones provide great video quality these days. If you’re filming with a smartphone make sure to film horizontally so you don’t have black bars on the sides of your video when you post it.
- When posting a YouTube video, make sure you have an eye catching thumbnail, a descriptive title, a full description box and great tags that will help your video get discovered!
- Grow your channel with collaborations! Find a YouTuber with similar content and an audience close to the size of yours and pitch them an idea. Upload your videos on the same day and time to insure max results!
Nothing Bundt Cakes in Palm Beach Gardens so graciously provided our group with mini chocolate chocolate chip bundt cakes. I can’t believe how delicious they were!
One of my favorite parts of this event was having my husband there. Not only did he support me by vlogging, manning the tripod setup and answering questions but he was able to truly see me in my element.
I left with my heart completely full! I LOVE what I do here on the internet and sharing that with others is so fulfilling. I’m thankful for my husband and supportive girl gang for believing in me and cheering me on through my very first solo presentation. I can’t wait to do it again! If you’re looking for someone to speak about YouTube to your group or company, I’m your girl!
