Adopt A Rescue

The shelter where we rescued our sweet dog, Remmy is at full capacity! The thought woke me up in the middle of the night and I just knew I had to share our story.

Growing up we always had dogs in our home. They were less like pets and more like family members. When my husband and I got married I knew we had to get a dog! Unfortunately my husband wasn’t as passionate about that idea!

About a year into our marriage a friend I worked with was desperately trying to find a home for his dog because he was moving and couldn’t take him. I begged David to let us take Zeus. I told him we’d just foster him until my friend found a place that allowed dogs. Come to think of it, this was probably God testing our foster parent abilities! David said yes with a little hesitation.

We had Zeus in our condo for six months. He was a love and so fun to have around. Eventually he was reunited with my friend and I was so happy for them but so sad to see him go.

I could feel something missing in our home and I so wanted to fill that void. After a few months of begging, our friend Mike helped me convince David that I needed a dog! We went to the animal shelter and David found Remmy, who at the time was named Iris.

She was sitting in the back of her cage shaking. She was so scared and wanted nothing to do with us. I wasn’t sure about her but David felt a connection.

They brought her outside to play with us and she immediately tried to escape. Even more cause for concern on my end! Eventually she started to come around and David said we couldn’t go home without her!

We went to the front desk, filled out the paperwork and they gave us a time to pick her up the next day. When we adopted Remmy in October 2014, the shelter was pretty full so they waved the adoption fee just like their doing now.

When we brought Remmy home she spent a few days adjusting and then her true personality came out! She loves to cuddle, eat treats, go on walks and falls in love with anyone who gives her attention. And as for David? He’s now a total animal person and wants to pet every dog he sees! Rescuing Remmy had a serious effect on him!

Adopting Remmy from Animal Care and Control was the best decision we ever made! If you’re local and able, stop by and adopt! If you’re not local, find a shelter near you and adopt! These sweet babies need our help and the love they have to give is unmatched!

“Who rescued who?”
